Weeks Ringle & Bill Kerr
Artists, quilters, authors, fabric designers and lecturers Bill Kerr and his wife, Weeks Ringle, are
always in search of inspiration. "We make quilts that are expressive in the time in which we live,"
Weeks explains. Their interest and focus on what it means to be a quiltmaker in the here and now keeps
their work fresh, modern, and original. Owners of FunQuilts, a contemporary design studio in Oak Park,
Illinois, Bill and Weeks infuse creativity into every part of their lives while designing and stitching
every custom quilt themselves. They share a strong design education and quilting background and embrace
roles as teachers and coaches in helping quilters find their own voice. Their weeklong Annual Design
Camp at Dominican University in Illinois encourages students to explore inspiration, as they
"cross-train" in basic design principles and learn how to execute ideas. FunQuilts has published
three books: Color Harmony for Quilts, The Quiltmaker's Color Workshop,
and the best-selling The Modern Quilt Workshop (likened to Joy of Cooking for
contemporary quilters). FunQuilts is recognized by high-end art museums and collectors, and have been
commissioned from people and organizations all over the world to create unique quilt designs. Their quilts
have appeared in national magazines, in prestigious museums such as the American Folk Art Museum, on the
beds of inns and private estates, in craft and decorative art shows internationally, and even as a math
textbook cover. FunQuilts continues to work successfully with RJR's
Cotton Supreme Solids program,
creating stunning quilt designs that have appeared in publications such as American Patchwork &
Quilting. Weeks is a regular blogger on international crafts portal
WhipUp. FunQuilts offers a complete
package of innovative fabric design and color sense that is enhanced by their vibrant, graphically
bold quilt designs.
